Danny Rosales Art
As a child, I spent summers visiting relatives in Los Angeles.We often drove past Compton's scrap steel yards, intrigued by piles of rusted metal and aged machinery moving debris. Sometimes I spotted an old car, appliance, or other relic before it was crushed and hauled away by freight trains. Nearby, the Watts Community features "The Watts Towers," 17 sculptural structures. I've since learned they are Outsider Art, but as a child, I was simply puzzled. "What's that?" I asked my uncle. He replied, "Some crazy old man was trying to build a tower to the clouds." The idea of building a tower to the sky from scrap steel amazed me and has captured my imagination ever since.
